Today, at Google I/O, Android Studio was announced by Google as the main supported development platform for Android – moving away from Eclipse, to IntelliJ.
This is pretty big news and a major nail in Eclipse’s coffin – I have moved away from Eclipse around a year ago, after more than 10 years of unwavering support: the shenaningans around the 4.x release, the unbearable slowness and the complete idiocy of p2’s “plugin install hell” made it a no-brainer.
Staff at IntelliJ have confirmed that Android Studio must be downloaded and installed from android.com/developers site, and (for now, at least) does not come integrated with IntelliJ 12.
